Birth of POGL Institute
Inauguration of POGL Institute at Gauhati
University on 28th January 2005.
The POGL institute was inaugurated at the central hall of the Gauhati
University, on Jan. 28, 2005, on occasion of the golden jubilee
function of the Assam Science Society. A large number of eminent
personalities including Honorable VC from Tezpur University Prof PC
Deka,, Dean of Science, Gauhati University Dr. KG Bhattacharjee,
President, Assam Science Society Prof Sharma and Director, Technology,
POGL Institute Dr. SK Mozumder were present and spoke highly on the
inaugural function. Mrs. Subrata Borgohain, Sr. Lecturer of Petroleum
Technology Department of Dibrugarh University gave a presentation to
explain the vision of the POGL Institute.
Former VC of Dibrugarh University Prof. Devdas Kakoty lighted the
inaugural lamp along with other dignitaries and spoke highly about the
objective and the vision of the institute. He had expressed his
satisfaction on the occasion of the inaugural function of the
institute. He also expressed his heart full gratitude to the Assam
Science Society and the Gauhati University for associating in this
noble cause.
Prof Kakoty gave the background of TIFAC-CORE and explained how the
President of India Dr. Kalam initiated the project of industry-academia
partnership and ONGC decided as a partner with Dibrugarh University.
Realizing the significance of the POGL Institute, the honorable
President of India Dr. Abdul Kalam expressed his confidence on the
partnership and believed that the institute will fulfill the aspiration
of not only the regional Requirement but will make a mark on Global oil
and gas scenario. He said
“I am happy to see that one of the chains in the TIFAC-CORE supported
by its industrial partner ONGC is doing a good job in Assam. I am glad
that a POGL Institute of Petroleum is being set up in association with
Dibrugarh University and Dept. of Petroleum. I wish the Institute to
have good vision so that its relevance is felt not only in India but
also globally and make a mark in the field of Petroleum, Oil and Gas.

Director RRL, Jorhat encouraged the idea of establishment of a
Petroleum institute in Assam. The other national partners are a large
number of oil & gas service providers and International technology
providers from USA, UK, Canada and Australia. Objective is to establish
sustainable growth through industry academia, private public
partnership and by sharing of vital resources like Man, Mind and
Machineries and by working together towards achieving Developed
India-Vision 2020. Development of masses need creation of asset through
development of people and technology. Assam and NE will take lead in
technology and infrastructure development as the region is in the most
conveniently suitable location to establish effective regional
co-operation amongst the fast developing SINO-INDIA-ASEAN sub
continent.

Learning organization to create opportunities for employment, career,

development of petroleum and energy industries for the benefit of
