The opportunities in the north-eastern region remains limited and
entrepreneurship development appears to be a distant dream in this
trouble torned area of unemployed youth. Every states of India have
taken initiative to implement all developmental projects under
government liberalized policy. Now, people and government of states
like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka speak in one language
"DEVELOPMENT". It is time to realize that without our initiatives,
we can not expect any help and assistance from others. India cannot
realize her dream of being a develop nation unless NE develops.
POGL will take initiative to realize the "Vision 2020- Assam and
NE" with active help, exchange of ideas and cooperation of well
wishers from all over the country. Purvashi is committed to
organize forum of well wishers of regional and global dreamers to
make Assam and NE as the most beautiful region in the world
During the last century substantial contribution has been made by
this region towards the growth of National economy, through forest,
tea, coal and oil industry. In spite of that hardly any progress
could be made to reduce the intensity of the unemployment problem
although there is enough scope for creation of large number of jobs
and entrepreneurs especially in the energy sectors. It is well
known that oil and gas sector in the north-eastern region is one of
the most well established, but the industry has remained in its
infant stage. For more than 100 years Assam has been producing oil
and gas, but in spite of that, so far only 27% of the known
petroliferous basin has been explored in the NE. At this rate more
than 100 years will be required only to explore the known areas and
benefit will not be available to the up coming generation. It is
also likely that new source of energy may be developed by that
time.
Moreover, natural gas has become an attractive fuel as it is clean
and can directly be used as fuel and therefore become cheap. But it
is found that a huge amount of associated gas has been flared from
Assam field till now. In addition, a number of large gas bearing
structures have been discovered in the upper Assam which is capable
of producing nearly 10 million cubic meter per day or more whereas
our present gas production is hardly 3-4 million cubic meters per
day. As significant reserves of hydrocarbon have already been
established in the plains of Assam and there are ample indications
for considerable additional reserves in the deeper horizon and in
the logistically difficult terrains of the North east. With the
mastery gained in technology and emerging system of management for
harnessing the natural resources, oil and gas can become a great
asset for development. It is understood that world class technology
providers from developed countries like USA, UK, Russia and
Australia have been closely working with oil and gas companies in
operating in Assam and they are also keen to form partnership for
exploitation of resources through application of emerging
technology.. The giant oil companies in this area have been
suffering in silence for various reasons, which has aggravated for
want of skilled manpower from this region and lack of vision. In
view of tremendous scope in oil and gas sector, it has now become
absolutely essential for taking initiative to train educated
personnel for oil and gas industries and to develop entrepreneurs
in an organized way. So by this way majority of the people in this
area can participate in the systematic growth of the industry
through jobs and entrepreneurship.
For survival and growth and to establish a progressive petroleum
sector, a radical change is immediately essential in modus of
operandi so that a significant contribution can be made through our
knowledge base towards nation building in an organized manner, with
the best use of information technology, in the era of reform and
liberalization in the new millennium.
It has therefore been conceived that a mega NE gas grid and gas
distribution network be established which will have a big
industrialization impact in the under develop NE.
